Pop Century Preferred Rooms

Disney’s Pop Century is one of the most popular value resorts at Disney World. It is a great value for those who are looking for the authentic Disney World experience of staying on site, but are conscious of their budget and don’t want to break the bank on a deluxe resort. For budget savvy people like these, one question that frequently arises is whether choosing a preferred room is a sensible option for them.

What Are Preferred Rooms?

At Pop Century, like all of the Disney value and moderate resorts, the rooms that are located the closest to the pool, lobby and dining areas are designated as preferred rooms. So if you want quick access to the pool, bus stop, food court, or many of the other amenities, the preferred rooms may be for you.   Unfortunately that extra convenience also comes with a price. Preferred rooms cost an additional $15 per night.

Should I Choose A Preferred Room?

While to some degree this is a matter of personal taste and budget, there are some other considerations that make a preferred room more desirable. The first is mobility problems. If someone in your group gets tired easily or can’t walk for long distances, the proximity to the bus stop and other amenities may be a big bonus. This can also include having small children who may be exhausted by the end of the day.

Another group that might enjoy a preferred room is those who are going to spend much of their vacation in their rooms or at the resort and pool.  Many parents who bring small children to the Disney World quickly find that the pool is their kids’ favorite park and that getting their kids in and out of the theme parks is a serious effort.  In this situation a preferred room may be very desirable.

There are of course some downsides to the preferred rooms. First of all, the extra $15 per night can really add up. Additionally, the extra walking can be good exercise and honestly if the small difference in walking is going to make a big difference then you probably aren’t going to get the most out of Disney World anyway. Still the advantages can be the difference between a great vacation and a miserable one for certain families.
